Events


Besides the regular services, St Helen's hosts a number of concerts and recitals.

The 2009 concerts include the following.

Vincent Billington

returned for his much loved series of Monday lunchtime piano concerts on 13 April.

Mondays at 1pm until the end of September. More information at his website

Anna Tam

will be performing solo Bach suites for cello No. 3 in C major and No. 4 in Eb major at 1pm on 28 May

Dr Francis Jackson CBE

will be giving an organ recital at 7.30pm on 12 June. This very special event is to commemmorate the very first recital on the present organ, which was given by Dr Jackson in 1959.

Caroline Challis

will perform a short program of Music for a Summer Afternoon at 1pm on 23 June. Mezzo-soprano Caroline Challis is a student at the University of York. This July, she will be taking her ABRSM Diploma in Music Performance, which involves a half-hour recital and the submission of programme notes. Caroline's recital on 23rd June is a public, unexamined event. The audience will be invited to feed back on her performance and programme, in preparation for her exam. The event is free, but any donations will go towards the 'Jesus is Lord' Church in Kingisepp, Russia, which Caroline will visit in July.

York Barbican Players

(Lucy Phillips violin, David Hammond piano) will present a summer lunchtime concert of English chamber music at 1pm on 22 July. The programme will include sonatas by Handel and Delius. Performers are Lucy Phillips on violin and David Hammond on piano. Refreshments will be provided after the performance and are included in the ticket price. Tickets are £5 and are available on the door.
